The Burn and Little Brian

When visited, we went to Balanced Rock, near TwinFalls, ID. There was a terrible fire there this summer. Human carelessness destroyed hundreds of acres of range. It did make for easy climbing to the rock, but my God... Flat, black, nothing growing...
Near the base of the hill where the balanced rock sits, there is a simple shelter with a picnic table sitting on a concrete slab. There was an oil drum for a garbage can and a pile of burned rocks on the concrete, possibly used as a fire pit, possibly piled after the range fire. Living in this pile of rocks in this wasted land was a tiny baby lizard.
I could not leave him there. He would have starved to death when the meager findings of bugs under the garbage can ran out and all that were left were beetles larger than he is. So... I brought him, and some of his familiar blackened rocks home.
He has more than doubled in size since that mid-August day. He is fat and happy and has a ready supply of bugs small enough to eat, fresh, clean water to drink, and plenty of basking light and heat. He's about as spoiled as a little lizard who almost died due to human negligence can be.
Little Brian is a blue-bellied western fence lizard properly known as Sceloporus occidentalis. I think he is male, time will tell.
